WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We recommend fitted bottoms. Given the range of motion during a typical class, students may be less comfortable in loose fitting or shorter bottoms. Tops are up to you! We find some students prefer to have fitted top and bottom so that form, alignment, and muscle movements are more easily observable in the mirrors for self-correction. Our priority is your comfort during class and in the studio!

SOCKS OR NO SOCKS?

We LOVE barre socks (with grips on the bottom), and highly recommend them for any and all Barretiste classes! While they are not strictly required, we view grip socks as advantageous in helping your feet stay put in the various positions throughout class. Less slipping and sliding – especially during those steamy summer months! Regular gym socks are not helpful here, as they can cause you to slip more than bare feet alone.

HOW LONG IS CLASS

Our "classic" barre class runs one hour from start to finish.  Barretiste Burners are 45 minutes, and Barretiste Foundations runs 75 minutes to allow for more verbal description, set up time and form correction.  Barretiste Prenatal Classes are one hour and our workshops vary in length.

We ask our clients to arrive in time for class, and as such, we ask our instructors to adhere to start and end times for all classes.

DO I NEED DANCE EXPERIENCE?

Heck no! While we use some terminology associated with ballet and other fitness regimes, our instructors will not only describe each move and position, but will also demonstrate throughout the class.  We don't want anyone to feel left out!

I HAVEN'T EXERCISED IN AGES... IS BARRETISTE OK FOR BEGINNERS TO FITNESS?

Absolutely! Your instructor should provide various modifications to work with your fitness levels and needs.  Shaking legs are completely normal for Barretistes of all levels; so don't be discouraged if this occurs.  It means you are doing it right and will soon see results! If you have specific concerns as you get back into the fitness groove, speak to your instructor before class.  Barre is a wonderful way to get into, or back into, a fitness regimen!

WHAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY?

Speak to your instructor before class about any injuries and associated modifications.  Your instructor should recommend modifications and check in during class.  If there is no time prior to class to talk to the instructor, feel free to flag them down at any point in class.  Your safety is our priority!

I DON'T "GET" SOME OF THE EXERCISES WE DO, AND I DON'T THINK I'M FEELING IT IN THE RIGHT PLACE OR MUSCLE ...  IS BARRE NOT MY THING?

We totally "get" it.  It can take a couple of classes to be able to translate what your instructor is telling you and showing into the exact muscle to target.  We encourage you to flag your instructor down for help with form - they want you to get the most out of your workout and are happy to check in to see what is causing you not to feel the exercise as described.  Also, we place a high value on attending a "Barretiste Foundations" class early in your time with us.  This is why we include one for free in our intro special! "Foundations" is a full barre workout, but takes a little extra time to explain each exercise and muscle group targeted, why we do it, how it should be set up and how it should feel.  Instructors spend extra time with each student to give individual attention and ensure that everyone is getting the intended benefit of exercises.

IS BARRETISTE OK FOR PREGNANT WOMEN OR SOMEONE WHO HAS JUST HAD A BABY?

Absolutely! In fact, it is FANTASTIC for pre and post-natal fitness.  Barretiste’s focus on core, leg, back and arm strength coupled with complementary stretching is ideal for expectant and new moms. We offer pre/post-natal specific classes and workshops, but new moms and moms to be should feel free to attend ANY of our Barretiste classes. Just arrive a couple of minutes early to discuss modifications with your instructor so you are all set for class.

 CAN GUYS COME TO BARRE?

Absolutely. We love when gents come to class!! We plan to offer occasional Bro-Barre classes, but guys can get something out of each and every class we teach at Barretiste. In fact, we’ve had Cross-Fit devotees, marathoners and weight lifters attend class and the feedback has been extremely positive. Variety in fitness is recommended for everyone – give it a try!

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR CLASS?

The studio will be open at least 20 minutes before a class begins – and the Barretiste Lounge is there for students to relax in before and after class. We recommend arriving fifteen minutes prior to the start of the class, and we ask that you arrive no later than ten minutes before class, or your spot may be given away to someone on the waiting list.  Unfortunately, if you arrive 5 minutes after class has begun, we will not be able to let you in to the class, as it is disruptive to other students.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Barretiste Management asks clients to cancel class prior to 30 minutes before its start time. We at Barretiste try to be flexible with our clients. We understand that "life happens" and late cancels may occasionally be unavoidable. As such, Barretiste has a "three strikes" policy. If a client late cancels (less than 30 minutes prior to start of class/workshop) for a third time in a calendar month, the client will have the class deducted from their package as if it had been used. For unlimited packages, the client will be charged a fee of $15 for the third missed class.

DO YOU SELL WATER?

We supply cold, filtered water and encourage you to bring your own bottles, or to purchase one of our adorable and functional BKR water bottles.  As we try to do our part in keeping waste limited, we do not sell disposable bottled water at Barretiste.

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE CLASSES?

We do indeed! Inquire at the front desk, via info@barretiste, or call the studio at 504-571-5662. Barretiste has single private sessions and packages available for private instruction, allowing the student to receive complete one-on-one attention from their instructor and tailor their workout to their fitness goals within the Barretiste format and structure.

MY FRIENDS AND I WANT TO TAKE A BARRE CLASS FOR MY BIRTHDAY/BRIDAL OR BABY SHOWER/JUST BECAUSE!  IS THAT AN OPTION? CAN WE PICK THE MUSIC OR THEME?

We LOVE hosting groups!  Inquire at the front desk, via info@barretiste or call the studio at 504-571-5662. We offer group rates for semi-private classes, and can also provide food, beverages and décor at an additional fee if you would like to host an event! We are happy to accommodate requests on music/theme, and work with the host to ensure food, beverage and décor meet your needs.

I LOVED THE MUSIC IN CLASS TODAY WHERE CAN I FIND IT/ DO YOU TAKE REQUESTS?

Just ask!!! We live and die by client feedback – let us know what you want to hear and we will do our best to incorporate your request. Our instructors and Owner Ali will happily provide you information on any of the music you hear in class, and we plan to make our Spotify account public in the coming months!

THIGHS/SEAT/ABS/WEIGHTS/STRETCHING IS MY FAVORITE PART OF CLASS – DO YOU EVER DO CLASSES THAT GIVE YOU MORE OF A SPECIFIC SECTION?

Workshops, or “Intensives” focus on those aspects and more. Based largely on feedback from our clients, Barretiste will offer a variety of workshops/intensives to place additional focus on certain muscle groups, stretching, and pre-natal modifications. These classes may be priced individually. Tell us what you want and we will try to accommodate it! Remember, we offer our 75-minute Barretiste Foundation class, which is included in our New Student 3 for $25 special. We consider this a workshop and highly recommend clients attend at least one!
